I’m in another Ideas

Ideas Magazine, the South African craft and lifestyle magazine, mentioned me in their June 2013 issue! I had no idea! Pun intended. (Ideas also listed this blog as one of their 14 favourite blogs & websites in March 2012.)

This time my name appears because I helped out Christelle of Haak-en-Stekie to set up the Afrikaans crochet page (now group) Ons Hekel (meaning We Crochet) on Facebook in 2011. You can read the whole story in this four page article. Crochet is HUGE in South Africa, and I think that’s due, in no small part, to the hard work of Christelle and OnsHekel.

Well done Christelle! If I am ever in Gauteng, I would love to meet you and the other Craft Share girls in person. It seems wrong that magazines are doing articles about us and we have never met, but that’s the power of crochet. Yarn and hook will bind us together.

Granny squares for Mencap

As promised in an earlier blogpost, I’ve crocheted granny squares for the Country Homes & Interiors Magazine Crochet Club. All the squares they receive will be made into accessories and auctioned in aid of Mencap.

Granny square piles

As always it was immensely enjoyable making granny squares. I just love, love, love traditional granny squares! In a 6-round granny square there are so many design options. Six rounds of colour to play with! I unashamedly indulged in colourful randomness – hooker style.

Granny squares

I raided my cotton DK stash for these squares. It was lovely working with cotton again after all the Stylecraft acrylics for the yarnbomb. I’m not a yarn snob, really I’m not, but man, cotton is just so much nicer to work with. Most of the yarn in these granny squares are Rowan Handknit Cotton, but there are some Stylecraft Classique Cotton and a few rounds in Gedifra Fiorista Fino too.

Granny squares

I like the idea that my fourteen granny squares will be incorporated into something that will raise money for a very deserving charity like Mencap. I wonder what kind of accessories the granny squares will be made into. Afghans, pot holders, cushions? I hope Country Home & Interiors Magazine keep us updated on their blog.

Have you made any granny squares for the Crochet Club? I’d love to hear from you if you have.

Do you remember the granny square workshop I attended at Toft Alpaca Farm on the 6th of November last year? I blogged about it, and the granny square scarf I made, here. It was a great day and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. What I didn’t tell you in the post, is that there was a photographer for Country Homes & Interiors magazine at the crochet workshop as the magazine was doing a feature on Kerry Lord and the Toft Alpaca Farm.

The article is in the current, March 2013 issue, of the magazine.

Country Homes and Interiors March 2013

Flick to page 144 and you’ll see Kerry (with the grey wrap and black headband) standing to the left of the photo – next to me, wearing my Dusky crochet top and grinning like a Cheshire cat! Can you tell that I was enjoying myself?! Our lovely instructor, Carrie is standing on the other side of me, looking very cute. You will also spot my one Converse trainer under the table. Classy.

Toft crochet workshop

The granny square scarf that I made at this workshop has been a lifesaver this Winter. Chunky Alpaca wool is definitely the way to go to keep you warm in sub-zero temperatures.

Do yourself a favour and buy this issues of Country Homes & Interiors. It’s filled with beautiful homes and loads of inspiration for a country lifestyle. And of course an interesting article about the Toft Alpaca Farm.

Last night I was lying in bed reading the latest issue of the South African craft & lifestyle magazine, Ideas, on the iPad.

The “You said it” section is always interesting. Hearing from readers all around South Africa, praising the lovely crafty projects in Ideas.

Then, at the top right something caught my eye….

Oh my word!!! Lizandi is  referring to this article.

Thank you so much Lizandi Fourie for taking the time to write to Ideas. I find it “utterly fantastic” that I can be an inspiration to you. Keep on hooking girlfriend!!

I have an Ideas

No, I didn’t get the grammar wrong on the title of this blog. I really do have an Ideas: a digital copy of the April issue of the South African craft+decor+food+entertaining magazine, Ideas.

The fact that I have a magazine really isn’t blog worthy, so why am I telling you about this you may ask. It’s because…..

In their “Web Inspiration” article (giving tips on how to create a blog) they list 14 of their favourite websites and blogs, and crocheTime is one of those 14! See, there I am at the bottom right of the page:

I was blown away when I found out! Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that a huge magazine like Ideas (they also publish the magazine in Afrikaans) would know about little ‘ole me, and not only know about me, but think my blog is worthy of a mention in their list of favourites!
Some of the other websites & blogs they like are Pinterest, The Pioneer Woman, Craftzine and Ravelry so I’m really amongst the Big Ones.

To any new readers from South Africa: thanks for looking me up and popping in! To the person in charge of deciding which blogs to include in the article: thank you so much!
