Budapest Day 1

Budapest

Greetings all! We’re back from Budapest! I’m going to do a blog entry for each day of our long weekend, so here is Saturday’s.

Hubby and I arrived late afternoon on Saturday to 33 degree heat! Wowzer! Luckily we had booked a return trip with the Airport Shuttle . Very good idea, as I can’t imagine having to do public transport in a strange city in that kind of heat. The Airport shuttle dropped us off right in front of our hotel. Brilliant! The hotel was also ideally located on Pest’s “restaurant street” Raday utca, around the corner from the Kalvin ter Metro station in one direction and around the corner from the Great Market Hall and Szabadság híd (the Liberty bridge) in the other direction. Perfect.

We didn’t do much sightseeing on Saturday, apart from taking the Metro to Batthyany ter to walk along the Danube and enjoy the Houses of Parliament and Széchenyi Chain Bridge at night.  It was a lovely evening and very good start to the weekend. Hubby took some amazing photos….

Budapest, Terrific Tuesday

On a Monday I can still remember the fun I had over the weekend, Wednesday is the middle of the work week, on Thursday I start getting hopeful and on a Friday I can taste the weekend. But what about a Tuesday? It’s so…. just there. Weekend memories are too far away and the upcoming weekend might as well be a year away.

What we need is a bit of colourful inspiration to get us going on a Tuesday, don’t you think? A pretty picture, beautiful scenery or colourful imagery. Yup, that’ll liven up Tuesdays and turn it into a terrific day!

From now on I will go through my holiday snaps every Tuesday and find us a pretty picture to add colour and joy to the day.

The theme for today is “in motion”.

We took this photo on Saturday evening in Budapest. The bridge in the background is the Széchenyi Chain Bridge – the first bridge that linked Buda with Pest over the Danube river. The car wizzing past in the foreground is obviously the “in motion” part of the photo.

The theme for today is “purchased”.

We were in Budapest this weekend so I’m showing something Hungarian we bought. We always buy milk, bread, ham, cheese and a “something nice”  at a supermarket so that we have breakfast food and milk for our tea and coffee (we also always travel with a travel kettle if the hotel doesn’t have tea & coffee facilities in the rooms).  From the receipt, you’ll see that the milk was Ft179.00 and the seeded loaf – look at the long name for seeded loaf in Hungarian!! – was Ft489.00.

The “something nice”…..

The theme for today is “after dark”.

Here’s a photo taken in Nice’s at the Place Massena. Those blue and purple shapes were statues made by Jaume Plensa, a Spanish artist, as part of the Annual Nice Festival in 2009. During the day there were just seven plain white resin statues of men on poles, but at night they lit up from yellow to orange, to red, to puple, to blue, to green.  The seven statues represent seven continents and the communication between the different communities of today’s society.

The theme for today is “something old”, so here is my lovely lovely grandmother that passed away at the age of 73 on 3 July 2004.  I look at her photo, and think of her, every day.

gratitude

  • The Starbucks at my work charges me 90p for tea with soy milk whether it’s a regular or a large cup. Bargain!
  • I’m not making supper this evening. I’ll be getting us Wasabi from Waterloo station on the way home.
  • I’m not making supper because we’re going to start packing for our long weekend in Budapest, Hungary this evening.
  • We’re going to Budapest this weekend!!!!!
  • I found a lovely B&B in Great Yarmouth and booked it for next Saturday.
  • I booked the B&B because it’s hubby’s birthday next Sunday and we’re driving up to Norfolk for the weekend!!!!!
  • I feel so blessed that I can go exploring two weekends in a row with my amazing husband.
  • It’s almost going home time.
  • Tomorrow is payday.
  • Monday is a public holiday in the UK, and I’ll be in Budapest.
  • I’ll only be back at work on Wednesday because I took Tuesday off.
  • The office is so quiet that I can blog about random things to be grateful for, during office hours.

“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” –  William Arthur Ward

And WordPress spellcheck said I didn’t make any spelling mistakes in this post. Nice.

The theme for today is “sunflare”, so here is a photo of hubby and myself enjoying the fall foliage in Bushy Park. It was taken the same day we took this photo.

A tight bargain

By now you probably know that I am quite a fan of colour *understatement*, especially when it comes to footwear.

I am also a fan of a good bargain, so when I went to Boots at lunchtime and saw marked down opaque tights I was thrilled. I bought four pairs of opaque tights and one pair of knee-highs. The black knee-highs are a bit too practical for my standards, but they are lovely and patterned which takes it up a notch. I especially love the Mulberry ones and just know I’ll be needing two pairs this winter. The best bit – the opaques were only 45p each (down from £4) and the knee-highs 35p (down from £1.35). Brilliant!!!!!

Now tell me how sad am I that I will unpack my lunchtime shopping to take a photo in an empty office and then do a blog entry about it?! Well, maybe not sad just very excitable and lover of the small things in life.  (At least, that’s what I keep telling myself.)
