Posted in My ramblings, Positive Thinking
I truly believe in the power of positive thinking, visualisation and using affirmations (repeating of positive words and phrases) to create the spectacular life we all deserve. John and I practice this daily and we can testify to the amazing power of a positive attitude. A website that’s been a great source of teaching for us is The Mind Unleashed. Their article of 6 March 2014 by Josh Richardson about ten life changing affirmation is so inspiring that I just have to share it with you.
I’ll be sharing one affirmation a day with you for ten days. I sincerely hope you will give these affirmations a go and experience how it will change your life.
*******
“One of the most influential affirmations is to tell yourself on a daily basis that you can achieve all the greatness in life. Focus on your vision and dreams and then attach the emotion to that vision. By telling this to yourself and believing that you can achieve greatness, it will eventually turn into reality” – The Mind Unleashed

I have been waiting more than six months to write this blog post so you can imagine how excited and happy I am to be able to finally share with you my great news: John and I are the proud owners of a fully kitted out custom-built brand new campervan!!!! We call him Ivan. It’s actually iVan because the owner of company who did the retrofit, said the inside of the van looks like an iPod because of all the white, hence iVan which became Ivan.

Do you want to know a bit more about Ivan? I thought you would, so my list making, bullet point loving, timeline thinking kind of brain is going to set out the sequence of events like I do the nitty gritty of my crochet projects:
As you can see this van has been a very long time coming, so we were super happy to finally see it. The Vauxhall factory delivered it straight to the CC Campers so even though we bought it in January, we only received the keys to our van in July. It was a great moment and the start of great things for the Kings.

It was totally worth the wait, and putting our trust in CC Campers was justified. We love every thing about our van. Christian did the most amazing job delivering a campervan with great attention to detail, high quality finishing and very practical.
We’ve only slept in our van for twice, but it was goooood. The layout really works for us. John can stay in bed while I scoot on over to the kitchen to make tea in the kitchen which wouldn’t be possible with the traditional campervan layout with “rock ‘n roll bed“. Our first night was a bit awkward because we left the pop top roof open which made it very cold inside. Saturday night was much better and more comfortable because we closed the pop top roof and took down the foam mattress to put on top of our seat-bed. Much better indeed.
I just adore our lime green Outwell collapsible kettle. The green section is silicone which just folds in on itself when you are ready to hit the road. It takes up no space at all. I’m also going to buy the collapsable mixing bowl. Green of course. The colour scheme for Ivan is grey and lime green. (We might be camping, but we can do it according to a colour palette).

This is Ivan parked on his pitch at Malvern Hills Camp Site.

Having never once in our lives camped, not even as day visitors, seeing the well organised and well equipped site office was a real treat for us. For regular campers this may be nothing special, but for is it was nice to know that we can pop on over to buy a bread and eggs, and borrow a rubber hammer (which we did).

Here’s John demonstrating how we cook in the campervan. We had to park our van with the back facing the road so that we could reach the electric point. Under normal circumstances we would not want to be on show like this. Not that fellow campers made a big thing of being able to see into our van. Camping Folk are really very private and everyone feels like we do: we will acknowledge a neighbour or passer-by, but want to be left alone for the most part.

The view from our campervan overlooking the Malvern Hills Camp Site. It may seem that there are a lot of caravans, but somehow it didn’t feel busy. For us as newbies when we drove in and saw all of these we thought “Oh man. This is going to be noisy and cramped!” but it wasn’t. The kids on site was very well-behaved, the dogs well-behaved, the adults quiet and curtious. The site as a whole is extremely well maintained and the toilet blocks very clean. Malven Hills Camp Site was a great choice for our very first campsite experience.

Gammon and egg on our first morning. Served on crocheted placemats of course. We’re eating out of disposable plastic plates with plastic knives and forks, but we’re not animals!

Speaking of crochet. I didn’t do any! I kid you not. I had three crochet projects with me thinking I may run out of projects because of all the time I’ll have to crochet, but all I did all weekend was read and enjoy nature, which included a 1.5 mile walk to Hanley Swan.
The one thing that stands out for me from this weekend, apart of course the fact that I am super happy with our campervan and know we will be spending a LOT of time camping, is that camping is so utterly relaxing. John said I was a different person at the camp site. I know why. It’s because I can’t rush anything. It’s impossible to do anything quickly when the biggest gas burner is the size of the smallest one in your home kitchen, when you can’t wash the dishes while something is cooking because you may burn yourself, you can’t wipe the counter top while something is cooking because you may burn yourself, you have to bend down awkwardly to get the plates under the cooker and be careful when you get up to not switch on the microwave with your bum. Living in a small space forces you to s l o w down and just take it easy. Once you embrace it and learn to chill out, the days feel like weeks, time stands still and you learn to live in, and enjoy, the moment.
Brace yourself readers, you will be seeing a lot more than just crochet on this blog from now on. I may not have done any crochet on our first camping weekend, but my head is full of ideas for crochet things to improve camp life and storage in the campervan. Patterns and projects will follow very soon.
If any of my readers are Camping Folk, I’d love to hear from you with suggestions of good sites, tips, etc.

On Friday, in an attempt to get away from the bathroom renovations we still have going on at home, I went to the Victoria & Albert Museum: the world’s greatest museum of Art and Design. It was fantastic. I spent four hours wandering, staring, taking photos, looking closely, looking from above and looking from afar at amazing pieces of art and craftsmanship.
Such a lot of what is in the V&A can be appreciated as pieces of art but it was never intended to be viewed as art. It was created to be used, and indeed it was, but it is so beautifully and skilfully made that we now exhibit it in glass cabinets and preserve it for future generations. Looking at hand embroidered carpets, dresses, tea cups, hand painted tiles and stained glass windows I couldn’t help but wonder what the craftsman of these pieces would think knowing that their skills were so extraordinary that it is now exhibited as an example of excellence. I love that there are places like the V&A which celebrate these craftsman and artisans, and inspire home crafters like me with extraordinary textures, scale, skill level and colour.
Here are a few photos of the pieces I loved most.
Fine Turkish hand embroidery:
Painted tiles depicting Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary. I stood in front of these tiles for 10 minutes just staring. I absolutely adore this.
The beautiful colours of these tiles:
I would wear that handbag now, and the Dior jacket is just perfect. The length of the sleeve, the turn-up of the sleeve, slight pleating over the shoulder, nipped in waist – everything is exquisite.
The 6th floor Ceramics department was amazing. I studied pottery in High School, blue and white ceramics pull me in like a magnet and I have a freakishly obsessive fascination with milk jugs so this was heaven. The museum houses the world’s most extensive collection of ceramics – no wonder it needs a whole floor to itself.
If you have builders/family/unwelcome guests invading your home go to the V&A. It’s the perfect place to forget your troubles and immerse yourself in creative peacefulness.

On a Monday I can still remember the fun I had over the weekend, Wednesday is the middle of the work week, on Thursday I start getting hopeful and on a Friday I can taste the weekend. But what about a Tuesday? It’s so…. just there. Weekend memories are too far away and the upcoming weekend might as well be a year away.
What we need is a bit of colourful inspiration to get us going on a Tuesday, don’t you think? A pretty picture, beautiful scenery or colourful imagery. Yup, that’ll liven up Tuesdays and turn it into a terrific day!
From now on I will go through my photos and Pinterest likes every Tuesday and find us a pretty picture to add colour and joy to the day.
xxxxxx
I took my toys outside to play on Saturday.
Wishing you all a Terrific Tuesday!

The last assignment for Blog Week couldn’t have come at a better time for me. I’m in a place in my life where I can see that all the great things I’m looking forward to, have been slowly but surely making their way to me since starting this blog back in 2011.
To make your dreams reality, it’s good to look back to see where you began so that you can appreciate how far you have come, because gratitude is the great multiplier in Life. The more you appreciate what you have, the more you have.
When I started my blog it was purely to share my absolute passion of crochet. As I learned more techniques, found amazing yarn, great patterns and saw inspiration all around, all I wanted to do was to share this with my blog readers. Over the last year I found I wanted to share crochet with people face-to-face at groups or workshops and to spend more hours of my day surrounded by things that would inspire me to be creative – things like sunny gardens, blue skies, the comfort of my home, time to really read and comment (not just glance and hit the “like” button) beautiful blogs and doing crochet or knitting (because while I knit and crochet creative juices really flow). What was holding me back was having to go to work five days a week. I blogged about this conundrum in March here, but the need to break away from the office have been coming on a very very long time. I just don’t want to say out loud, or type, the words of complaint and frustration too much because just as gratitude can multiply the good things, so too complaining can multiply the bad things.
In the meantime my dear husband had also been looking for a career change. Through a series of events, most of which were brought on by his positive attitude, he is now doing his dream job for more money. Best of all he didn’t even have to change firms – he still works with the same people, at the same place, 10 minute walk from home.
Then, in February I grabbed an opportunity that has the potential to change my life. A fellow PA announced that she was going on maternity leave. She works only Monday to Wednesday….. I put myself forward to do her maternity cover, and I got it! As of this week, I only work Monday to Wednesday! Thursdays and Fridays are now blogging, photography, crocheting and knitting days! Yes, my salary is less, but with John’s new role and his excellent financial planning, we don’t have to worry too much. We’ve also made a few small changes (like rethinking the type of train ticket I buy and not getting a bi-weekly cleaning service any more), but I am so happy! With my free time I can now set wheels in motion to turn my hobby into a career.
Thursday was my first day at home. It was amazing!
It started with a morning tea overlooking the garden while the laundry was drying.

Mid-morning I caught up with The Big Allotment Challenge. This is where things get a bit nasty… our bedroom has been unusable since the Bank Holiday weekend. John replaced the ceiling with a new one that has better sound proofing (we live in the ground floor of a maisonette and our upstairs neighbours are very noisy….). It was a massive job but he did it wonderfully. Now we have plasterers in to skim the new ceiling and the walls. When they are done, John and I will paint everything white and then we get a new carpet. I can’t wait to have our bedroom back! Until then, our bedroom furniture is all over the place, including the living room.
At least I have my knitting 🙂
I soon got tired of looking at the back of the book case and two halves of the bed base, so I moved the knitting outdoors.

Then it was time to prepare lunch. Lunch with John! If you think I’m happy to be home on Thursdays and Fridays, you should see John! He loves that he can spend his lunch hour with me. I set the table with placemats and a little posy of flowers from the garden.
I made a salad and quick lemon juice & thyme dressing. My knitting and laptop is still on the table within reach. Of course.
After lunch and waving John goodbye at the door (how 1970’s housewife am I?! I love it!) I continued watching The Big Allotment Challenge, this time with my Crochet Mood Blanket. I was in the messy living room again but at this point it really sunk in how much time I will now have for crochet and knitting. I was half way through the first day and already I had swapped between my two crafts and I still had the whole afternoon ahead of me! When our house is back to normal (we are also redoing the bathroom) I’ll be able to use my Office Behind The Door again. That’s going to be great! (I’ll also be able to fit in an afternoon nap…ooh yes!)
When things in the living room / bedroom campsite got too much I moved outside again to continue working on Crochet Mood Blanket.
I got up every now and again to check on the dinner (no housewife is worth her salt if dinner is not on the table when husband gets home) and pack away laundry. If I say “pack away laundry”, I mean fold it and pile on top of any of the three stacks of wardrobe drawers on the floor of the study. Our clothes are not neat (or easy to find), but at least it’s clean.
I really had the most amazing day. I just know that because I’m so happy, relaxed and busy doing what I love, everything, including the crochet workshops I’m holding, is going to work out. How could it not?
In the meantime, I’ll follow my own advice – I won’t focus on the messy house I’m in now but rather focus on the beautiful white walls and modern bathroom that is to come. And to take my attention away from dust and inconvenience? I’ll knit and crochet.

Tote Bag Barry is one of, at last count, five canvas tote bags I use to carrying and keep my various crochet projects in. Tote Bag Barry is a memento from a road trip through Germany’s Romantic Road. I bought him at a supermarket near the Neuschwanstein Castle for a few Euro’s – much cheaper than the tote bags in Hohenschwangau village at the foot of the castle.
Me: Hi Barry. Thank you for taking the time to chat with me today.
Barry: That’s all right. I wasn’t doing much anyway sitting here on the chair in your living room with Crochet Mood Blanket 2014.
Me: I know you don’t have a very exciting life at the moment, especially compared to your time in the REWE Supermarket in Schwangau with all the tourists admiring you. You have to remember that I was one of those admiring tourists and when I saw you I just knew you would be another perfect bag to carry my crochet around.
Barry: Yes but you could take me out of the house once in a while you know. The tree hugging “My Green Bag” cotton bag from the health shop goes to work with you every day!
Me: You’re right Barry, but I keep you at home because you are so much bigger than any of my other tote bags. You’re keeping Crochet Mood Blanket 2014 company and he’s growing every day. By the way, thank you so much for keeping him from unravelling the other day. I really wouldn’t have been able to keep him happy if you hadn’t told him about the diary. I need you around to keep CMB2014 in check. Just like the Neuschwanstein Castle printed on your front, you are a stable influence and impressive, I dare say noble, presence on that chair.
Barry: Well if you put it that way I guess I can overlook the disappointing lack of excursions.
Me: Thank you for understanding Barry. You are my German prince! As CMB2014 gets bigger you soon won’t have to keep him safe any more. I promise to then swap you for the health shop tote bag and you can go with me to work. Will that make you happy Barry?
Barry: Ja. Vielen dank.
Me: You’re welcome Barry.
