Terrific Tuesday

On a Monday I can still remember the fun I had over the weekend, Wednesday is the middle of the work week, on Thursday I start getting hopeful and on a Friday I can taste the weekend. But what about a Tuesday? It’s so…. just there. Weekend memories are too far away and the upcoming weekend might as well be a year away.

What we need is a bit of colourful inspiration to get us going on a Tuesday, don’t you think? A pretty picture, beautiful scenery or colourful imagery. Yup, that’ll liven up Tuesdays and turn it into a terrific day!

From now on I will go through my holiday snaps every Tuesday and find us a pretty picture to add colour and joy to the day.

How much more colour do we need?! Stripey carpet, Murano glass dish, tulips, candles and granny squares! Luuuuve it!

Did it work? Do you feel inspired to take on Tuesday? I hope so!

I hope you all have a Terrific Tuesday.

gratitude, postive thinking, Terrific Tuesday

Today’s Terrific Tuesday isn’t so much about a cheerful holiday snap, it’s an example of the power of positive thinking – and it happened to me this very morning.

When I get off the train at London Waterloo, I can take one of four busses to work. Bus numbers 76 and 26 I catch to the right of the exit, and bus numbers 4 and 172 I catch to the left of the exist. I usually go to the right. The traffic was really bad today so it took ages for a bus to come. I was first in line at the bus stop but I waited and waited and waited. I sent one of my colleagues a text messages saying that I may be late. Still I waited and waited. After about 25 minutes I spotted a number 172, which meant I had to give up my space in the front of the queue and run to the bus stop on the other side, but I didn’t mind as I would finally be on a bus. Nope. As I turned around (huffing and puffing) I saw that it wasn’t a 172 that I had spotted, but in fact a 17, and in the time that I had ran to the other bus stop numbers 76 and 26 had arrived at the bus stop where I was waiting for 25 minutes!!!

Here’s where it gets interesting. In stead of being angry or irritated I just laughed at myself. I also thought that maybe there’s a reason why I shouldn’t be on the 76 or the 26. I had already told the people at work that I may be late, so there’s also no need to stress.

About three minutes later a black cab pulled up at the bus stop and out of nowhere the lady who opened the door, turned to me and asked whether I wanted a ride to the office! It turned out to be a, now heavily pregnant, trainee lawyer who I had worked for a year ago who had been standing in the front of the queue waiting for a 172 or 4 bus! A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!! I was at work in a jiffy, had a lovely catch-up with Zoe in the back of the cab, was dropped off right in front of the office, and then Zoe insisted on paying for the cab!

I’m so happy that I stayed happy!

I hope my little example of looking at the bright side of life will inspire you to do the same. Have a Terrific Tuesday!

Today’s colour burst comes from Karen M. Andersen’s blog. I just love love love this colourful photo! It’s part of her brilliant tutorial on how to make crochet hangers.

I’ve always wanted to replace all the plastic hangers in my cupboard with colourful crochet ones, but there just always seems to be something else on the hook – notably stock for my Etsy shop or a craft market.   I’ll just have to add this brilliant project to my Ravelry queue with the seven hundred and forty nine other projects. Okay, not 749 exactly, but it does feel like it sometimes.

Have a happy hooky Tuesday people!

Here we have the PG Tips Monkey (pronounced “Monkay”) at the leaning tower of Pisa. He’s such a cutie we didn’t mind that he popped his knitted little head into our shot.

Did it work? Did Monkay put a smile on your face? I hope so!

Have a terrific Tuesday.

Today’s colour burst comes from four lap blankets I made for Huis Uitsig in South Africa. My grandmother, who passed away in July 2004, was very involved with this carehome. Right up to the age of 73 she helped out at the carehome. She used to call the residents “ou mensies” which is an affectionate Afrikaans way of saying the “old people” – she was older than a lot them, so it that just speaks to her-young-at-heart attitude which I so loved.

I only started to crochet after my grandmother had passed away, which is a pity.  Making these blankets is my small way of continuing the good work she did at Huis Uitsig. I’m sure she will approve.

The technical bits of these blankets: The body of the blankets are white polar fleece with crochet edging done in Stylecraft Special DK. I had to choose unisex colours, and had to be careful not to make the blankets look like baby blankets.  The rows are just shells of 2dc, with the very last row done in sc. In order to tie the borders in with the white fleece, I did the second to last row of all the blankets with white.

I’m definitely going to make more of these in the near future. I was so aware of my grandmother whilste making them! Every time I chose a new ball of yarn and wondered whether it’s too bright, I thought of Gran and I knew she would have said “Go for it! It will cheer up the old mensies.”

I hope these cheerful stripes brighten up your Tuesday!

This morning around 06:20 I was browning meat, frying onions, chopping carrots and opening tins of chopped tomatoes. I hadn’t even had my morning tea yet! The reason for the cooking frenzy so early in the morning? I bought a slow cooker. 10 Hours in the slow cooker means getting started before dawn for the inaugural meal of oxtail stew tonight.

The cooking reminded me of a day I spent with my brother at Borough Market in 2007. We saw lovely things (including a lady in a very very very ill-fitting red dress that just seemed to be everywhere we were – it was like a train crash. We so wanted to look away but we just couldn’t!).

One of the prettier red things of the day were these bowls of beautiful tomatoes.

Have a terrific Tuesday everyone! I hope the photo inspires you to eat healthy / use red in a crafty project / make a Bloody Mary – whichever rocks your boat.

A friend is currently in Venice which reminded me of our weekend there for my birthday in 2005. It was extremely hot, we had a very nosey B&B owner and we got lost one evening walking in circles in the city. Good times! No really, it is one of my most memorable holidays:

I hope you have a terrific Tuesday!

As it’s such very windy, grey Autumn day here today, I think we need a colourful beach scene like this one taken in Wimereaux, France in May 2008:

Did it work? Do you feel inspired to take on Tuesday? I hope so!

Have a terrific Tuesday.
