postive thinking, Terrific Tuesday

On a Monday I can still remember the fun I had over the weekend, Wednesday is the middle of the work week, on Thursday I start getting hopeful and on a Friday I can taste the weekend. But what about a Tuesday? It’s so…. just there. Weekend memories are too far away and the upcoming weekend might as well be a year away.

What we need is a bit of colourful inspiration to get us going on a Tuesday, don’t you think? A pretty picture, beautiful scenery or colourful imagery. Yup, that’ll liven up Tuesdays and turn it into a terrific day!

From now on I will go through my photos and Pinterest likes every Tuesday and find us a pretty picture to add colour and joy to the day.

clocks, crochet, Etsy, gratitude, postive thinking

I just have to share the amazing afternoon I’ve had with you. It’s crochet and yarn related, but it’s so much more.

Sunday before last (the 22nd of Jan) I sent a message via Ravelry to a lady who inspires me every day with the amazing, colourful, creative crochet she does. It’s because of her and her lovely blog, that I got hooked on crochet. I wanted to thank her for all the inspirational blog posts and free patterns she so generously provides, by giving her one of my clocks. In the message I gave her a choice between two of the clocks in my Etsy shop. One a pastel flowers clock, the other a retro red circles clock. The retro red circles clock has been in my shop since the very beginning, with more than 700 views and featured in 8 treasuries on Etsy. I knew people liked it, but no-one bought it. The pastel flowers clock has been my best seller, so I hoped that one of these two options would appeal to her.

Unfortunately, to this day, she has not replied. Which is actually a good thing, because…… both of these clocks were sold on Folksy! The pastel flowers clock sold the 25th of January (3 days after the Ravelry message), and the retro red circles, was sold this afternoon (9 days after the Ravelry message) TO THE SAME PERSON! Lynn, who I found out today also has a Folksy shop selling lovely embroidered and hand drawn cards and collages (please go have a look!), was so happy with the flower clock that she bought the second one for her study!

The pastel flower clock is in hanging in her studio. She even wrote about it on her blog.  I’m so happy to see my clock in its new surroundings, proudly ticking away in someone else’s creative space!!! I’m also loving her wall full of inspirational images!

When I packaged the flower clock, I included a flowery brooch for her, as a little something pretty just to say thank you (you can see it on Lynn’s wall below and to the left of the clock). Yesterday I sold a flowery brooches on Etsy to a lady from Brixton who had bought one about two months ago – another returning customer!

I honestly don’t think these are coincidences. Whenever I give something with love, even if I just offer it and the person doesn’t accept the offer, I receive. It’s such a powerful, wonderful law of the Universe and it astounds me every time it happens.

In another happy twist, I’ve been in the mood to crochet a cardigan of some sort for myself but wasn’t sure what I wanted to make. I dabbled with the idea of a lacy wrap, but the pattern I like is in Portuguese and even though it includes diagrams, I’m not sure it would be a fun exercise…. I also couldn’t find a good substitute for the Pingouin yarn they used in the pattern.

In the end I went with my first instinct: a Garnstudio cardigan from their 2012 Spring collection that I fell in love with when I saw it for the first time last week.

The yarn I bought for this, is Drops BabyAlpaca Silk. Baby… Alpaca….Silk! It’s the very first time I will be working with something as luxurious as this and I’m super excited. Even more excited because as I was placing the order for the yarn, which came to £28.90 for the 8 skeins, the retro red circles clock was sold for £20, so the super duper fantastic yarn only cost me £8.90. It’s a sign of good things to come I think!

P.S. Sales of the clock pattern is coming along nicely as well. To date nine have been sold so there are nine entries into the draw for the square clock that I blogged about here. If you want to be in the draw, you have until midnight Friday 3 February to purchase the pattern and be entered into the draw. Good luck!!

Angry Birds, Christmas, gratitude, postive thinking

I’d like to share a Christmas tale that proves what you give is what you get. Seriously.

On Thursday John and I decided that we would only spend £10 on each other this Christmas. While I was thinking what to get the man who has everything I thought of a Boots voucher, but then I realised it’s actually something I would really want (there’s always something for me to buy at the make-up / hair care / lotion counter) so I tried to find another gift for him.

That morning I did some work for one of the lawyers in our department who I don’t usually work for. I must have done a really good job, because later that day he handed me an envelope with a £10 Boots voucher to say thanks for the work I did! I was gobsmacked! Here I received exactly what I had desired that morning, and from the most unlikely source (seriously, if you know this lawyer you would know that a thank you, much less a voucher, is totally out of character).

Friday, my last day at work, I received various christmas presents from the lawyers I work for, including a £100 Amazon gift voucher. £100 is a lot of money to spend at Amazon! During the course of Friday morning John went to the shops to buy my £10 gift. That evening I showed him the Amazon voucher and without thinking, I just blurted out that he could have half of my voucher to spend on himself at Amazon. I honestly hadn’t planned on giving him half, it just sort of “fell” out of my mouth. He was really happy and grateful and ended up buying new Philips hairclippers and PC memory. These two items came to £60 so he asked whether he should give me the £10 back in cash but I said no, go for it, £40 is enough for me to spend on Amazon.

Christmas morning, and I received my gift from John. Guess what it was….. a £50 voucher from Boots!!!!!!!!!!! Remember, he bought the voucher before I got home that evening, so he didn’t know I would give him £60 to spend at Amazon! That means that:

I think of a £10 Boots voucher, I receive the voucher the same day.

I receive a £100 voucher and give £60 to John, but I get my £60 back in the form of £50 Boots vouchers from him and the £10 from the lawyer, and he gets his £50 back in the form of £50 from Amazon!

I just love love love love these Laws of the Universe. If you give with love, it, and more, will come back to you!!!

By the way, I’m going to spend my £40 at Amazon on, among other things, Simply Crochet: 30 Stylish Designs for Every day and Crocheted Throws and Wraps. My £10 gift to John was a very cute and funny Red Bird Angry Bird that makes the same sounds as in the iPhone game. Red Bird is now hanging out with the three crochet birdies and they are big friends. We think he’s not really angry, just a bit misunderstood.

I hope you are enjoying your Christmas Day with friends and family. Hopefully you’ll find time for a bit of crochet action as well.

gratitude, postive thinking, Terrific Tuesday

Today’s Terrific Tuesday isn’t so much about a cheerful holiday snap, it’s an example of the power of positive thinking – and it happened to me this very morning.

When I get off the train at London Waterloo, I can take one of four busses to work. Bus numbers 76 and 26 I catch to the right of the exit, and bus numbers 4 and 172 I catch to the left of the exist. I usually go to the right. The traffic was really bad today so it took ages for a bus to come. I was first in line at the bus stop but I waited and waited and waited. I sent one of my colleagues a text messages saying that I may be late. Still I waited and waited. After about 25 minutes I spotted a number 172, which meant I had to give up my space in the front of the queue and run to the bus stop on the other side, but I didn’t mind as I would finally be on a bus. Nope. As I turned around (huffing and puffing) I saw that it wasn’t a 172 that I had spotted, but in fact a 17, and in the time that I had ran to the other bus stop numbers 76 and 26 had arrived at the bus stop where I was waiting for 25 minutes!!!

Here’s where it gets interesting. In stead of being angry or irritated I just laughed at myself. I also thought that maybe there’s a reason why I shouldn’t be on the 76 or the 26. I had already told the people at work that I may be late, so there’s also no need to stress.

About three minutes later a black cab pulled up at the bus stop and out of nowhere the lady who opened the door, turned to me and asked whether I wanted a ride to the office! It turned out to be a, now heavily pregnant, trainee lawyer who I had worked for a year ago who had been standing in the front of the queue waiting for a 172 or 4 bus! A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!! I was at work in a jiffy, had a lovely catch-up with Zoe in the back of the cab, was dropped off right in front of the office, and then Zoe insisted on paying for the cab!

I’m so happy that I stayed happy!

I hope my little example of looking at the bright side of life will inspire you to do the same. Have a Terrific Tuesday!
