Today is the first post in my new weekly series: Watch Me Crochet Wednesdays.

I’m not doing a fancy instructional crochet video; just a short video of me crocheting whatever I’m working on at the moment. I hope you like it.

This video shows me crocheting:

  • around a polystyrene sphere in an attempt to make a balloon*,
  • in (US) half double crochet / (UK) half treble crochet,
  • with a 6 mm crochet hook,
  • using Wendy Supreme Cotton Chunky in shade no 1420 (white).

The video was taken on the Bank Holiday Monday. We had amazing weather so I’m seated outside at the patio table, crocheting al fresco. On a sunny weekend it feels wrong to sit on the livingroom couch with my crochet. A slight breeze, warmth and the shade of our patio umbrella really gets my hooky vibes going. Do you like to crochet outside?

*The balloon one of three I have to make for a custom order I received on Etsy two weeks ago. I will share more about this interesting project later.

A beautiful stop motion advertisement filled with crochet and romance. I can watch it over and over again.

This stop motion film is the work of Marion Ber, a Textile Art Degree student from Madrid.

I think it’s absolutely genius! Crochet and knitted woolen cake ingredients, making a crocheted black forest cake – what’s not to love?!

I’m still busy with Fleur, aka the Summer Vest Take Two.

I’m not going to lie to you: I’ve been less enthusiastic about this piece of wearable crochet. I know it’s because I’ve lost momentum after having to frog the orignal Summer Vest, but I’m pushing hooking through.  I won’t allow myself to start another piece of wearable crochet until this one is finished (wish I had this kind of self control when it comes to a tube of Pringles!)

I’m not saying Fleur isn’t pretty or that the yarn isn’t pretty or that I don’t like the pattern, not at all! It just feels a bit “this has been done before”. Well, technically it has. Thankfully Fleur is going to be so much more flattering than the first Summer Vest. I have to start with the armhole shaping of the back panel this evening, and already I can tell that Summer Vest Take Two is going to be a hit and worn a lot (British Summer permitting).

As you can see I’m hard at work.

If you want to see a bigger picture of what I have so far, and how to make the Hot Cross Bun stitch….. watch this video.

Thank you for rEAding. Watch the video. You’ll see hear what I mean 😉

Constructing the Belle top – a video

It’s my YouTube debut today! I’m so excited about Belle and have such a lot to say, a typed blogpost just wouldn’t be able to get the message across, so I did a video!

I put together the video to show you how to construct Belle. (I blogged about the gauge swatches and finding yarn for Belle, here.)

Please be patient with me, as it was the first time I did a video. You might have to turn up the volume a bit. There’s a lot of uhm’s and a bit of eye rolling whilst I try to find my words. The video also ends quite abruptly, but that’s because there’s a ten minute limit on YouTube videos (I actually talked for about 15 minutes, with a proper ending, but hey-ho.)

I hope the video helps you if you are making Belle, alternatively it gives you ideas for making a similar crochet top.

Please note that I’m making size M, so where I refer to 89 dc and 23cm, that’s specific to size M.

Shape of my…. cardigan

I love this song, so couldn’t resist including it in this post about how my cardigan is (excuse the pun) shaping up.

I’m hard at work (during my lunch break) shaping the sides, v-neck, armholes and neck of the left front of my Whispers cardigan. Quite challenging if you have to make the left front a mirror of the right front, and the pattern only provides instructions for the right, but I managed it and have only a few rows to go.

At least the two sides look the same – if they’re both wrong, I can call it a “design modification”.

P.S. I got my cotton drawstring bag at Knit Nation 2011, and the cute doodley bird pin was a surprise gift from my blogworld friend, Lynn Holland.

Terrific Tuesday, video

On a Monday I can still remember the fun I had over the weekend, Wednesday is the middle of the work week, on Thursday I start getting hopeful and on a Friday I can taste the weekend. But what about a Tuesday? It’s so…. just there. Weekend memories are too far away and the upcoming weekend might as well be a year away.

What we need is a bit of colourful inspiration to get us going on a Tuesday, don’t you think? A pretty picture, beautiful scenery or colourful imagery. Yup, that’ll liven up Tuesdays and turn it into a terrific day!

From now on I will go through my photos and Pinterest likes every Tuesday and find us a pretty picture to add colour and joy to the day.

xxxxxx

I love this video!!! It really cheered me up this morning.  Taking photos in random settings – so me, and the famous last words “I’m on a yarn diet”. Yeah right.

Wishing you all a Terrific Tuesday.

crochet, crochet pattern, free pattern, Knit and Crochet Now!, Robyn Chachula

Back in December I was merrily clicking around on Etsy, when I received a message from Candi Jensen, the producer of Knit and Crochet Now! TV, asking me whether I would ever consider selling the pattern for my clock. I nearly fell off my chair. I didn’t even know there was an American PBS TV channel dedicated to knitting and crochet, nevermind in my wildest dreams did I think that a producer on that show would be interested in my little old clock.  Once I had stopped jumping up and down in excitement, I visited their website. What a lovely surprise! This Emmy nominated show’s website is a treasure trove of helpful tips and beautiful crochet and knit items.  How did I not know about these people?!

Clicking through the list of free patterns, I fell in love with the “garden granny” scarf of Season 3-112. In that episode they also did an interview with Edie Eckman, whose crochet edgings book I’ve referred to so many times on this blog. I may just have to buy the DVD of Season 3!

Another one of my favourite crochet designers is Robyn Chachula, who is one of the experts on the channel. I’ve made two of her Floating wraps – one in grey and one in a variegated green and blue yarn. I love that pattern! I really love Robyn’s easy but very beautiful designs. In Knit and Crochet Now! TV’s online shop you can buy designs from Robyn, as well as other designers. Have a look at Robyn’s Colourful Snow Scarf, it’s really pretty.

The best feature of their website for me, is the videos section.  A lot of the crochet patterns they show you here, are part of the afghan square of the week feature. Sometimes the written word just isn’t enough when you’re trying to get your head around a new crochet pattern and the only thing that will do is having someone show, and talk, you through it. (I taught myself to crochet with videos on YouTube, so I may be biased.) Here is an example of the type of videos they have on the website (and therefor the type of content on the show).

Lace Ripple from Candi Jensen on Vimeo.

See what I mean? Videos are so much nicer!

It was the encounter on Etsy with Candi that eventually lead to me selling the pattern. Candi also very kindly promoted the pattern on the Facebook page of Knit and Crochet Now! TV. I am so grateful to her! Their Facebook page has 17,477 fans, which is amazing exposure for a simple hooker like me.

Candi, if you’re reading this, thanks again! May your TV channel grow, never to be frogged, always with a lovely WIP on the hook and a stash of rainbow colours to choose from.

The video that shows you exactely how to cover your shoes with doilies, is posted as a favourite on my YouTube chanel, MrsCrocheTime. I hope to fill the YouTube chanel with more of my own crochet videos over time, but for now, enjoy the Craftzine video.
