Maplevillage W.I. Christmas Fayre

Saturday hubby and I were at in St. Andrews church, Surbiton for the Maplevillage W.I. Christmas Fayre. It was a beautiful setting!

Despite the hallowed ground sales didn’t go as well as I had hoped. I only sold one blanket, eight birdies and one granny star – no clocks, and no brooches. Only one star! I thought that at £1.50 each, and being the cheapest thing on my table, they would sell really well.  Oh well, the King christmas tree is going to look REALLY good this year 🙂

Here are some pics:

The birdies were a huge success. People couldn’t resist picking them up and giving them a squeeze.

I had very craft neighbours. In total I’d say there were about thirty tables selling a variety of handy crafts. MaudiMade, which I met at the Surbiton Festival in September, was there as well. I bought a 2012 diary refill in lovely shades of green for my filofax at her stall, and I’m loving it!

For sale

All the brooches are now in my Etsy shop, and next weekend I’ll be listing the unsold baby blankets there as well.

If any of my readers are doing the Christmas Markets Thing, I wish you loads of success! For me, this was the last market as a seller. I think I’ll stick to selling online and attending craft markets as an avid buyer.

Another crochet blanket spotted on TV last night! This one is a lovely hexagon blanket in muted colours in Mike & Mollie, Season 2, episode 8.

In season 1 the blanket was on Mollie’s bed. I wasn’t mad enough to take photos of my TV in those days but luckily someone else was – and it’s a much better photo of the beautiful hexagon blanket on Mollie’s bed. (Hopefully Mollie wasn’t thinking of her crochet blanky when she pulled that face…)

You would probably be able to recreate the blanket using Lucy from Attic24’s Hexagon pattern, although any hexagon would do.

autumn, converse, leaves

On a Monday I can still remember the fun I had over the weekend, Wednesday is the middle of the work week, on Thursday I start getting hopeful and on a Friday I can taste the weekend. But what about a Tuesday? It’s so…. just there. Weekend memories are too far away and the upcoming weekend might as well be a year away.

What we need is a bit of colourful inspiration to get us going on a Tuesday, don’t you think? A pretty picture, beautiful scenery or colourful imagery. Yup, that’ll liven up Tuesdays and turn it into a terrific day!

From now on I will go through my holiday snaps every Tuesday and find us a pretty picture to add colour and joy to the day.

xxxxxx

I just looove wearing converse and I loooove autumn leaves, so this photo is the ultimate Makes Me Smile photo. I hope it does the trick for you too!

Brainy crochet

Last week I showed you a photo of a granny square blanket as seen on Big Bang Theory. Happy happy me. Well imagine my utter utter delight when I saw a whole advertisment made out of crochet!!!! That’s right, everthing in the latest Sudafed commercial is done in crochet.

It shows a crocheted lady trying to relieve her congestion over a bowl of steam. Then it uses crochet to illustrate where mucus (green yarn…) would be in your brain. Just look at the intricate details of this brain! I wonder who crocheted this? It’s not like there’s a pattern on Ravelry for something like this.

I even recorded the whole advertisement. It’s not the best video, but you get the idea. There’s not much sound but let’s face it, we’re not interested in the sound are we?

Proof once again that brainy people crochet.

I’m especially loving the stripey triangle scarf. It looks like it’s done in rows of shells. Very easy to recreate. In fact….. you can probably get the same effect with a pattern called Sezession I by Rodger Murry, available on Ravelry as a free download. 134 Of these Sezession 1 triangle scarfs have been made already! You’ll just have add a fringe for it to look like the one in Accessorize. Result!

Check out the granny square afghan on Big Bang Theory, Season 5 episode 3! And yes, I paused the show and stood in front of the TV to take a photo.

Slightly crochet obsessed and loving it!

No, not the old Tudor song:

but a crocheted green cotton sleeve for my Starbucks cup at work.

I whipped this one up with a no. 6 hook and Drops Paris cotton yarn. I used the “House Blend Cozy” by Lion Brand yarn pattern as a base. In the end I had to almost double the foundation chain and as I didn’t do mine in stripes, I ended up doing it in Amigurumi style where you just keep on going in the round without a definite start and end to the row. I basically just used their pattern to get the shape of the sleeve right.

All things considered, quite a thing of beauty me doth thinketh.
