Tick Tock. Tick Tock. Can you see how time flies?

I thought my first GIF must show one of my ticking clocks – it just makes sense considering the theme of this blog don’t you think? But what clock should I choose for the GIF debut?

It’s got to be the biggest one I have – the 45cm Big Benny in shades of green.  I don’t think people realise just how big it is! Big Benny is for sale in my Etsy shop for £40. Just click here.

As for GIF’s. Well, a GIF is the name of a file extention (like PDF, JPG or DOC).  It stands for Graphics Interchange Format (geek speak to my ears) and basically means a file of moving images in a loop – not a video, but not a static photo either.

I was introduced to GIFs in blogs, by Christelle who told me about One Sheepish Girl’s blog. She has the cutest GIFs! I use a iPhone App to create mine but a quick Google search will produce many other GIF creating websites.

My GIFs are nothing compared to the amazing, fascinating, beautiful GIF-type images by fashion photographer, Jamie Beck. Honestly people, have a look at these photos – it’s not photos, and it’s not GIFs – it’s cinemagraphs.

The GIF possibilities are endless, so expect to see a lot more on my blog.

clocks, crochet, Etsy, gratitude, postive thinking

I just have to share the amazing afternoon I’ve had with you. It’s crochet and yarn related, but it’s so much more.

Sunday before last (the 22nd of Jan) I sent a message via Ravelry to a lady who inspires me every day with the amazing, colourful, creative crochet she does. It’s because of her and her lovely blog, that I got hooked on crochet. I wanted to thank her for all the inspirational blog posts and free patterns she so generously provides, by giving her one of my clocks. In the message I gave her a choice between two of the clocks in my Etsy shop. One a pastel flowers clock, the other a retro red circles clock. The retro red circles clock has been in my shop since the very beginning, with more than 700 views and featured in 8 treasuries on Etsy. I knew people liked it, but no-one bought it. The pastel flowers clock has been my best seller, so I hoped that one of these two options would appeal to her.

Unfortunately, to this day, she has not replied. Which is actually a good thing, because…… both of these clocks were sold on Folksy! The pastel flowers clock sold the 25th of January (3 days after the Ravelry message), and the retro red circles, was sold this afternoon (9 days after the Ravelry message) TO THE SAME PERSON! Lynn, who I found out today also has a Folksy shop selling lovely embroidered and hand drawn cards and collages (please go have a look!), was so happy with the flower clock that she bought the second one for her study!

The pastel flower clock is in hanging in her studio. She even wrote about it on her blog.  I’m so happy to see my clock in its new surroundings, proudly ticking away in someone else’s creative space!!! I’m also loving her wall full of inspirational images!

When I packaged the flower clock, I included a flowery brooch for her, as a little something pretty just to say thank you (you can see it on Lynn’s wall below and to the left of the clock). Yesterday I sold a flowery brooches on Etsy to a lady from Brixton who had bought one about two months ago – another returning customer!

I honestly don’t think these are coincidences. Whenever I give something with love, even if I just offer it and the person doesn’t accept the offer, I receive. It’s such a powerful, wonderful law of the Universe and it astounds me every time it happens.

In another happy twist, I’ve been in the mood to crochet a cardigan of some sort for myself but wasn’t sure what I wanted to make. I dabbled with the idea of a lacy wrap, but the pattern I like is in Portuguese and even though it includes diagrams, I’m not sure it would be a fun exercise…. I also couldn’t find a good substitute for the Pingouin yarn they used in the pattern.

In the end I went with my first instinct: a Garnstudio cardigan from their 2012 Spring collection that I fell in love with when I saw it for the first time last week.

The yarn I bought for this, is Drops BabyAlpaca Silk. Baby… Alpaca….Silk! It’s the very first time I will be working with something as luxurious as this and I’m super excited. Even more excited because as I was placing the order for the yarn, which came to £28.90 for the 8 skeins, the retro red circles clock was sold for £20, so the super duper fantastic yarn only cost me £8.90. It’s a sign of good things to come I think!

P.S. Sales of the clock pattern is coming along nicely as well. To date nine have been sold so there are nine entries into the draw for the square clock that I blogged about here. If you want to be in the draw, you have until midnight Friday 3 February to purchase the pattern and be entered into the draw. Good luck!!

You may recall that on the 8th of August I told you about the brand spanking new online boutique, Dorothy & Theodore, that asked me to sell crochet clocks on their website. Well…. the site is live! Please go have a look at all the beautiful, hand-picked, hand-made items for sale.

Dorothy & Theodore is an exciting online shopping boutique created specifically for parents who do not wish to wholly compromise on style in order to accommodate the needs and wants of their children.

The aim of Dorothy & Theodore is to provide a single place where you can find beautiful and practical products which meet the requirements and desires of both parent and child, as well as some truly special products to commemorate the arrival of a child, their christening, first birthday or other important occasions.

Every product we select to represent has been hand chosen by us, and many of them have pride of place in our own homes. We hope that you will love them as much as we do.

Apart from clocks  – three designs of which are exclusively available on Dorothy & Theodore – I also sell fleece blankets with a crochet edge on the site! I really really really love making these blankets – in fact, a tiny bit more than making the clocks.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Depending on how well the blankets sell I may expand the range to include pram sized blankets, and also do the fleece in other colours, or even patterned fleece – all with a crochet edge of course.

But enough about me: please go have a look at the brand new Dorothy & Theodore website! www.dorothyandtheodore.com.

clocks

Last night in the Evening Standard I saw a picture of a knitted clock being sold at the Conran shop – for £350! That’s the price of my crochet clocks with an extra zero!!!  This morning I couldn’t find that specific clock on the Conran shop website, but they do have these two knitted clocks, designed by Benedetta and Carlo Tamborini for Diamantani & Domeniconi.

The covers can be removed for hand-washing and are £130 each.  It looks like it’s knitted in moss stitch so it has a nice texture, which will probably gather dust – hence removable covers for washing. I love the simplicity of it.

However….. the two Tamborini designers also make huge knitted clocks, called the Gomitolo Clocks, in six colours.

Gomitolo is the result of a collaboration between an industrial designer  (Carlo) and a fashion designer (Benedetta). It’s beauty lies in the transfer of material and technology from the fashion industry.

The smallest of the huge clocks are 50cm diameter at £246.50 (my biggest clock sells for £50) and their big one is, wait for it, 90cm diameter – that’s almost 1 meter at £462.50!!!! But just look how amazingly it is!

I have no plans to crochet a 90cm clock – I’ll leave that to Benedetta and Carlo. I can however appreciate a beautiful thing when I see it, even if it is knitted 😉

You can buy the Gomitolo clocks at Nest, or you can buy (ten of) my crochet clocks at Etsy.
